Selection
& Vetting procedures.
The
essence of our service is the staff we supply; this begins with our
vetting procedures.
We
have, as a company, created and driven the selection and assessment
processes which many companies now see as a standard. For example we
were first in this area to provide photographic ID cards, Medical
questionnaires and induction for temporary staff. Outlined below are our
current vetting processes.
Temporary
Worker Registration
Prior
to registration all applicants wishing to register are required to
produce an official form of Identification: Passport National Id card or
Birth Certificate, etc, plus two photographs, together with their
National Insurance Number.
Application
form
Applicants
complete comprehensive registration forms, which requires the applicant
to provide the following: Full name, Address, Date of Birth National
Insurance number, details of unspent Criminal Convictions, Next of Kin,
Work experience, Work History including Agency Experience,
pay rates, Whether they are a smoker, Nationality, whether they
need a work permit, etc. It also requires the applicant to provide
information on qualifications and other work experience and also
confirms the applicant’s ability to read and understand English.
Eligibility
To Work In The UK
All
Applicants are required to provide proof of identification which is
produced during registration, confirming that they can legally work in
the UK. All this type of ID is photocopied and kept for reference and a
copy is sent to the client before commencing work if so required.
All
workers from accession countries are required to register with the Home
office and although this is not a legal requirement, it is closely
monitored by us to ensure compliance.
Interviewing
All
applicants take part in a registration interview.
The interviewing is undertaken by consultants or temporary staff
co-ordinators who have, in
their turn, been trained in interview techniques .
During
this registration interview, the information given in the form is
closely questioned to confirm its accuracy and legibility, also to make
sure that the skills claimed are either tested or can be verified.
The interviewer also uses this time to assess how the applicant
interacts. How they question
- and answer questions - are they suitable for, say packing, to a
satisfactory standard as a full-time occupation or would they become
irritated at a repetitive task and leave at very short notice or become
unreliable. Are they clean,
healthy and tidy? Willing,
confident, etc. Persons who
we consider would not be suitable for temporary work at all are not
assigned to work.
Medical
Questionnaires
Our
medical questionnaire, which is incorporated into our application form,
is specifically targeted to highlight those problem areas, associated
with food production and was designed with this in mind; and has been
approved by an occupational Nurse and clients
professional medical/Health & Safety staff. Every person that
registers with us completes it as it forms an integral part of our
registration form. We also confirm that an applicant can hear and has no
medical condition that would affect his/her ability to work in a food
production environment.
ID
Cards
All
staff working on site carry our standard photographic ID cards, which
also show a confirmation of satisfactory completion of Food safe &
Manual Handling procedures.
References
We
have a standard reference form which can be used for a verbal, postal or
fax reference.
